Biosafety is the prevention of large-scale loss of biological integrity, focusing both on ecology and human health. These prevention procedures include the conduction of regular reviews of the biosafety in laboratory settings, as well as strict guidelines to follow. 

A biosafety level is a set of biocontainment precautions required to isolate dangerous biological agents in an enclosed laboratory facility. The biosafety levels are classified based on the health and environmental risk associated with biological agents. So there are different biosafety level requirements in laboratories to control the spreading of harmful biological agents. The levels of containment range from the lowest biosafety level 1 to the highest at level 4. that is,

  2. Biosafety Level 2
  3. Biosafety Level 3
  4. Biosafety Level 4

At the lowest level of biosafety precautions may consist of regular hand-washing and minimal protective equipment. At higher biosafety levels, precautions may include airflow systems, multiple containment rooms, sealed containers, positive pressure personnel suits, established protocols for all procedures, extensive personnel training, and high levels of security to control access to the facility.
